Another two trough days in WA. Inter-club comp on Saturday, Bev -
Cunderdin - Narrogin town - airfield - Bev = 306 kms everyone moves in a
clock-wise direction; 5 attempts from Beverley including me. After a
relight, took a 3000' tow towards the cu-line 13k east, and got a nice 5
knot climb to 7300', glided back in dead still air for the start, then
back to the cu-line.
Greg Beecroft and I got around, the others cut short coming out of the
Cu line. It was brilliant under Cu 7-9knots to ~ 7500', but to the west
of that a long way between climbs, I went from 7500' - 2700' before I
got a climb. Rocks, dark paddocks and ridges seemed to be the trigger
points. A bit of a cycle around 4pm saw me grovelling around a rocky
area at 1700'agl looking for a final glide climb. One eventually broke
away at 2 knots and I got home at 84kph for the trip.
Heard three on radio from Cunderdin, I think they got home as well, none
from Narrogin that I could hear.
Sunday, I was towing, the cloud line started well east of us. Only one
on x-c, David Wellington in the club astir, grovelled out to the cus and
was rewarded by climbs to 9500'. Another line came from the west ahead
of the sea-breeze front(that's replacement air-mass for our Gawler
readers) and we had great conditions until 4pm. Cessna 182 tracked over
Bev at 5500 and our Puchacz had to take avoiding action, as the glider
pilot said "lucky someone was looking out".Typical

John.
