My response was "Mike, I don't know what book you are reading, but it must be different to mine when it comes to IO permissions. Even a level one Independent Operator can exercise whatever ratings he has (including passenger carrying and Air Experience Flights n the absence of a level two instructor on the field. According to my reading of the MOSP: A pilot with an Independent Operator endorsement in the logbook, who also holds a Private Passenger rating may carry private passengers independently. A pilot with an Independent Operator endorsement who also holds a Charter or AEI rating may carry out independent Charter or AEF flights. Why must people be so bloody negative about all this!" That message was sent on 14 Dec - but it possibly didn't get past the Optus mail server as they had a few problems that day. Snip Wanna hear some more instructor horror stories? Comment: Instructor horror stories are not limited to gliding under the GFA, and are easy to produce for just about any activity. They stick in the memory and inevitably become embellished over time. But what about the success stories? It seems unfashionable to talk about patient, understanding and knowledgeable instructors working together to bring a student of less than average ability to solo standard and beyond. Such stories don't make interesting reading but,for the instructors concerned, are immensely rewarding when the goal is achieved. And if any instructor can't identify with that statement, then I feel sorry for them -perhaps they should not be instructing! Snip As for GFA bashing, any organisation that can reduce the number of participants from nearly 5000 to just over 2500 in 15 years at a time of population growth of greater than 1% per year, thoroughly deserves bashing.
