I'll believe these people will carry on with anything. They should be
rebutted comprehensively and then ignored. I'd like to see a US 1981 style
purge of the ATC ranks.

Mind you if you look at the AUF chat list you'll see several people
bemoaning the fact that under NAS 2c they will have to think and will be
permitted to use their discretion to do non standard things. What a
terrible concept!

My reply below:
To those worried about NAS 2c:

I've flown in the US on a number of occasions and I've always been
impressed by the way the US pilots stick to the "recommended" but not
"mandated" procedures and exhibit excellent airmanship and discipline.

Can't we do the same here?

Wouldn't you like the *option* of deviating from the recommended procedure
and doing the safest thing in the particular circumstances without breaking
the law?

I've been confronted with numerous situations here where the standard
circuit was about the silliest thing to do in the circumstances.

Are we happy to die while trying to avoid breaking the law?

I'm putting in an NPRM response 100% in favour of the proposal.
