Yes Mark, but there needs to be a thorough follow-up of these in the magazine
for all those people who do not get there. I'd reckon it's far less than 20%
of our membership who attend Kevin's seminars. I try to attend where
possible when Kevin comes to Sydney, but there are always going to be people
with family, sport or work committments, those on the duty rosters or other
schedule clashes which simply deny them access to these discussions when they
occur (not necessarily because they have a slack attitude about wanting to be
safe pilots).

If there was a summary of the first meeting included in Australian Soaring,
then if any additional points are raised around the country as the roadshow
progresses, a supplemental article could be written for the magazine, and all
material should be on the GFA web site for later reference.

In this way, all GFA members have equal access to the information Kevin is
trying to disseminate.

At the moment we tend to get one-liners which really don't help explain the
root cause and scenarios leading up to the accidents clearly. The last
really comprehensive GFA accident reports I recall were the ones hanging on
the GCV Benalla clubhouse wall when I was doing my ab-initio training there
in January 1998 - in fact I think this is what is shown under Operations on
the GFA web site. What happened to all subsequent reports ?

The HGFA general manager's report in each and EVERY edition of the magazine
puts the GFA to shame. OK, maybe they have lots of accidents and the outcomes
and root causes are not that pretty to put into print, but gee, they actually
DO IT. I commend them for their diligence in trying to promote a "think
safety" mindset amongst their pilots.
