I'd endorse Ian's comments re Gary Brasher's
organisation. We took delivery of a DG303 in December from the AMS Flight
factory in Slovenia, Gary was most helpful in organising all aspects of the
shipment which went of with no problems (at least from our
perspective).
I
actually discussed with Gary the possibility of us picking the glider and
trailer up from their yard at Port Botany and towing it away rather than
using a side loader to deliver the container to Tom Gilbert at Camden (Aust
agent), that wouldn't have been a problem with Gary, but the logistics of
doing it from Canberra made it a bit clumsy so we went with the side loader
bit.
Make very sure you have an import permit for the
trailer, as it is classed as a "vehicle" and if you don't have the right
documentation before it lands in Australia it becomes a bureaucratic
nightmare getting it registered. Technically, if it arrives without the
right import documentation being in your hands prior to it docking, you
could be faced with re-exporting or destroying the
trailer!!!!
Depending on your state there may be some local
peculiarities to negotiate as the long trailer doesn't sit comfortably in
any of the "standard" categories of vehicle.
There are lots of "additional" costs apart from the
actual shipping (cusoms, quarantine etc etc etc) so make sure you have a
handle on those.

I found Gary Brasher organization good (never
used him before) but there was a bit of a stuff up re booking a
sideloader semi to come to Byron (less than 2 hrs from Brisbane
port). Coordination right through is important. I only delt with Gary
but I guess I should have talked to Brisbane direct Caution side
loaders are becoming very expensive so get a quote. See if you can
get it on a direct boat as we did recently and it guarantees you are not
sitting around in the hot sun at Singapore. Brisbane is the best
value port to ship into and I believe it will be even better in future due
to Patricks expansion - We actually used P&O port
