Thanks for the suggestions but your last line about sums up the problem.
The Linux solution isn't likely to be 10 times better nor 10 times cheaper
and would require enough effort to change over that it isn't worth the
effort and besides you still have to run some version of Windows for
software development and support for customers using Windows, which is most
of them.
Is there some reason why a modem using NAT and a router with other anti
hacking measures built in is worse than a Linux PC as a front end for net
access?
