Hello all, For the information of those of you who may be planning to compete at the National Championships next year, details of the three events and the latest rules have been posted on the GFA website.
The Club Class Nationals will be held at Kingaroy 7th-19th October. The Junior Nationals are at Gawler 16th-22nd December The Multiclass Nationals will be at Temora 14th-25th January. The major rule change for the coming season is that the Club Class Nationals will be flown in two classes, Club and Sports, and an Australian Champion will be declared in each. Club Class will be limited to gliders eligible for International Club Class competition, and will be the class from which International Team selections will be made. The range of eligible gliders is from LS3/LS7 to Libelle and Astir - the official Club Class eligibility list can be found at http://www.gfa.org.au/sport/clubclass.php The list can be accessed under the "National Championships" menu on the right of this page. Sports Class will be open to any glider, though it is likely that it will attract the higher performance gliders which previously competed in Club Class. There will be a limit of 40 entries in a class, accepted on a "first come first served" basis - there is no seeding list. Another significant rule change is that short day devaluations have been removed from the scoring system, so we should see almost every day being worth 1000 points to the winner. Lay Day rules have changed also, and from this season will have to be scheduled at the start of the contest, not on 24 hours notice as previously. It will be possible to schedule them by date or by competition day, and the provision for the Contest Director to grant a Lay Day in special circumstances remains. If anyone has specific questions on rules please contact me directly, as I know that many aus-soaring members are not in the Nationals scene.
