Yes, we put some largish patches of that style of reflective film on the 
AAFC G109, fin LE and wing tips.
Couldn't really be seen from more than a very short distance away.

Haven't tried disco balls, but I vaguely recall seeing a glider with a 
hemisphere one about tennis ball size on the turtle deck behind the cockpit. 
Can't remember when or where.
