Subject: [Aus-soaring] GFA Safety Seminar - VSA Region - last opportunity

G¹day All

This message is for pilots in the VSA (Victorian Soaring Association)
region. Pilots from northern NSW will probably not bother reading it,
pilots from Queensland probably won¹t care, while those from SA will read it
if they can and pilots from WA, being so far away, will probably only get
this when its all over!

The second and last GFA Safety Seminar for the VSA region will be held on
Saturday 28 August at the Gliding Club of Victoria (GCV) clubhouse in
Benalla. Attached are the details of the seminar.

The first seminar in Melbourne was well attended and all said it was a
valuable addition to their flying knowledge. Of specific interest is the
new CASA imperatives and how they affect our flying and continuing ability
to fly in the future. All pilots should be aware of these imperatives.

Please note that a Parachute Seminar will be held on the following Sunday
(29 August) at 10am. Jo Chitty will conduct a 1 hour lecture on emergency
parachutes

Jo has been a parachute rigger for over 35 years and for the last 10 years
he was the Director of Rigging for the Australian Parachute Federation. Jo
currently operates a business called "Skywerx" which has designed and
manufactures safety harnesses for use in rescue helicopters. He also builds
various UAV recovery parachutes, powered parachutes and military equipment.
This will be an excellent opportunity for pilots to have questions answered
by an expert and dispel any myths or theories that they may have!

Following Jo's lecture we will have several parachutes to be used as
training aids and Vern Rosenfeldt will have the Escape Training Module which
I'm sure will have a dramatic effect on safety in gliding. All are welcome
to attend the parachute seminar.

Please advise me of your attendance at the GFA Safety Seminar in Benalla so
adequate catering arrangements can be made (free lunch on Saturday!) by
return email or phone.
