I think a forgery would be pretty easy to spot - a true glider's data plot is erratic, but predictably so. The person who programmed the RF simulator would have to be able to perfectly model a glider's position and altitude changes in a "thermal" , model the wind correctly and be highly detailed overall otherwise a forgery would be easy to spot (especially if someone knew the conditions of the day).
And if found, that person would never be allowed to launch in a competition ever again, nor be able to log a record. Possibly not be welcome in any club. You'd think with all the effort that would go into creating a valid and undetectable plot, you could have used the money and time to get in your glider and practice a little.... -Gus On Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 11:42 PM, John McFarlane < [email protected]> wrote: > Bring back start lines and start times, fixed turning points and film > camera's :) > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] > [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of > [email protected] > Sent: Thursday, 20 January 2011 10:56 PM > To: 'Discussion of issues relating to Soaring in Australia.' > Subject: Re: [Aus-soaring] Forgery and sabotage > > {Quote}Mind you I think the most important person is the witness (damn > what > are they called?) - because they know the conditions of the day, they can > see from a trace if it was real or faked right away.
