Just to let everyone know...

Although several "pre-release" chapters of the Getting Started and Migration guides are being reviewed again, I decided to publish each of these books as a full book now rather than waiting until later.

I've been working on the master documents, which needed quite a bit of tweaking before I got them to behave themselves (meaning, "do what I want"). Aside: while doing that, I learned lots of interesting things about master docs that I must write up and add to the relevant chapter of the Writer Guide.

So once I got the MDs working, and since I had all of the chapters, I thought, "why not make these books available to everyone"? (Since the chapters are available, why not the books?) So the Getting Started Guide and the Migration Guide are now on the OOoAuthors website and the Documentation page at OpenOffice.org. The books, like the individual chapters, are marked as drafts.

Yes, these books will need to be updated and republished again later, when all the chapters have been reviewed and ready for final publication. BTW, I'm still having some problems with a few of the subdocs, which I'm working on.

I'm looking forward to publishing the books for the Calc, Draw, and Writer Guides. ;-)

Cheers, Jean

Sorry this reply was meant for this message.

Questions/Thoughts on the books:

1) Can we make the figures have chapter numbers instead of just getting bigger. Like in the Getting started with Calc, could the first figure be figure 7.1 instead of 66?

2) If someone were to print these out, would they look okay in black and white? Has anyone tried?

3) Can we add bookmarks to the PDF files or make the TOC hyperlinked?

All for now. This is so cool!
