SnagIt is really convenient to use, so I use it for all XP shots. Try

We have a few different capture utils here at work, so capturing's not
really the problem. I just want to make sure it matches the other
graphics and that I put the file in the right place. The graphics in the
chapter don't appear to be imbedded. I only see them when I'm connected
to the Net.

Another thing to check is using the same theme throughout the chapter
for the particular O/S. I believe that two different XP display styles
may be used in different chapters in the docs (but you didn't hear it
from me...). I believe I'm seen both the blue/red XP and, I think, the
silvery one (whatever they're officially called). You can select
whatever you need from the Display control panel in XP. Just use the
same one throughout your chapter.
