BTW, you should not need to change the individual chapter files to turn a US-letter-size book into an A4 book. Changing the page styles in the master document (ODM) file should be enough. That is one of the big advantages of using a master document. However, see my other note about x-ref problems.

I found it better to forgo the master document and just copy and paste the chapters together with a new page for each chapter's start when generating something longer than a chapter in length. The master docs sometimes don't seem to play by all the rules...

Of course, before selecting the text (Ctrl+A) in the second or later chapters--delete the front stuff first.
