Total kernel deadlock. Nothing goes. I can not login from another machine etc.

I don't think so. I'm using the source RPMS packages from NVIdia
and install them via (1) --rebuild (2) --update. Whenever I recompile
my kernel the NVIDIA kernel modul is complaining about version missmatch
anyway and X rejects to startup.

This crashes too. So it does not seem to have to do with Xv
Can't give you any output since as I said there is
nothing going anymore when aviplay dies.
Hope that helps.-
Btw: The machine I am working on is a dual processor. It works fine
on my little laptop without any nifty hardware acceleration.
