I'm using vista, and maximizing a Flash Player window didn't make any
difference for me :/

I will try to look into this in a little more depth, give me a chance
to get acquainted with the innards of away3d.

If anyone else is also interested in squishing this bug, I've created
a minimal source package to demo the problem. It's simply using an FLA
(CS4 FP10) with it's document class set (instead of supplying an FDT
project like I did before). You can then easily migrate it to the
editor of your choice.

Still pretty surprised no one else has had this issue before, seeing
as it's quite basic functionality :)
