Thanks Katopz, but Maya 2009 is no longer available and ColladaMaya 3.05C will not install in anything newer. OpenCollada does install in Maya 2010, so that's what I've been working with.
This whole thing is just way too brittle. It needs to be easier and more reliable to get 3D into Away3D.
