I didnt get what do you compare with, but my opinion is that

exporting mesh and vertex animation from start is much faster than
animating bones skin inside Away. Keep in mind that vertex animation
is being performed by CPU not GPU. Thats why performing complex
transformations with more than 1000 vertex will cause drastic
slowdown.

Correct me if GPU can perform such vertex on bones animation.
