Arkadianen, No, bones animation is definitely slower than vertex animation. Ie. The CPU needs to rotate the joints and calculate the skin vertice, whereas in vertex animation it just looks up the corresponding positions from an array, no calculation is done. You are right, that I could export as a vertex anim straight away, but then i'd end up with a dae that is 5MB instad of 1MB. I do care about loading times, this is why I chose to do realtime caching.
