Cheri I don't abbreviate at all any more. I did at one time use the state abbreviations but then I ran into AZ as Arizona and sometimes people thought it meant the Azores! So, now I write it all out and the computer truncates them itself but it's all there on my screens. I do not, however, write in USA.

I know certified genealogists abbreviate nothing. They leave no question as to what they are talking about. In my genealogy program, I don't abbreviate the freguesia, church, island or Azores. I do abbreviate in somewhat in emails. I was abbreviating county (as in Los Angeles Co) and I was abbreviating California as "CA" but "CA" is also Canada, isn't it? I was thinking of changing to California, but CA is in the state field and Canada (I spell out the countries) is in the country field. Which *seems* clear until you do an export/import. I see strange things in the fields when I import people's Gedcoms. I was wondering how far people abbreviate? If anyone found my work, they'd know most of what I had in my program because of the limited abbreviations, but I was thinking of dropping all of them. -- Cheri Mello Listowner, Azores-Gen Researching: Vila Franca, Ponta Garca, Ribeira Quente, Ribeira das Tainhas, Achada --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected].
