Thanks for all who have replied. I think I'll continue spelling out Vila Franca do Campo (in my genealogy program) and maybe for those that died in America, I'll think about spelling out county. I think it's better to spell out the state as a couple of you have mentioned. I think USA is pretty unique, so that one I'll leave alone.
