Wow! Ola! I am so glad to meet you Prima Carol! I can't believe that we are all so close! I am in University City! Vivian and I correspond fairly regularly with e-mail and we met for coffee at Starbuck's in Clairemont last year for the first time and I met her Aunt Rosie. This is wonderful! My maiden name was Marie Marshall. My paternal grandfather, Jose Machado Soares was born in Lajes, Pico. He came to America (Massachusetts) at a young age (three years old) but made several trips back and forth to visit relatives in the Azores. He angelicized his name two times. At one point he changed his name to Joseph M. Sawyer (from Soares). He was naturalized under Sawyer and married my grandmother under Sawyer. Even the first few children were born under the name ofSawyer. Later, he changed his name again by changing Machado to Marshall. This was the name he kept. My father was the youngest and was born under Marshall in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I was also born in Cambridge but grew up here in San Diego living next door to my Portuguese grandparents in Bonita. I married Richard Pleasant (of English extraction), my high school sweetheart. Seekgene: If you wish, you can just call me Carol. That's what I am known as anyway. I just do the Carol Silva Warnock because Warnock is my married name and it is Scottish. You would never guess any Portuguese connection with the name of Carol Warnock. Vivian is in Poway and I am in Point Loma/Ocean Beach area. Where in San Diego are you located? About 15-20 years ago I worked with a Marie Machado who lived in Bonita.
