filho legitimate: baby born in wedlock filho natural: baby's parents not married filho illegitimate: one parent married to somewhere else, as John stated. So the 3 adjectives are modifying the filho (or filha) and that is the context we were discussing (title of the thread: Legitimate vs Natural. Dave wanted to know why the father went missing on some of the records.) Guess I should have kept them with the filho to avoid confusion.
