My male ancestors from the island of Faial, Feteira are listed as Mariante and Maritimo. I was wondering is there is a difference between the terms. Other male ancestors are listed as Trabahador, a worker. A worker could mean many types of work, maybe farm work? All women in my family are Domesticas which makes me wonder if women had outside of the home occupations, and, if working outside the home, would this work be recognized in parish records, birth, marriage, death.
