Thank you for your interest and help.  Checked the link but don't know if
Edna Velma Cota would be the same person or not.  As you think, I have
looked at a lot of "Velma" records wondering if they could be the same
person but I have no way to know for certain.   I lost contact with Velma
when I was a toddler..  didn't even know her name until recently.

Thanks for your suggestion of an Americanized name of Vilemina/Velmina -
certainly could be.  That would broaden the search a lot.   Perhaps your
mother would be a source of information?   And she may have changed her
last name from Hughes back to Cotta after the divorce???   Or she may have
re-married???

As you can see,  I have more questions than answers.
