No Hebrew root can mean 'might' or 'strength', but 'up, on' is good.  
In what sense
depends on our perception and understanding of the circumstances.

ELAH אלה (Gen. 35:4), and ALON אלון (Gen. 35:8) are tall trees.

Think also about the words: לול LUL (1Ki 6:8), לולאה LULAH  
(Ex. 26:5)
and ליל LAYIL (Ex. 12:42).
