Seriously, when you strip off the Masoretic points, more options are
available. This is a good example of what I say when the Masoretic points
make a passage more difficult to impossible to understand.

Is כנף one word, or is it a prefixed כ on a participle of נוף which has the
meaning of “to present, as in setting before, brandishing, waving”? What
were the detestable things from the desolator if not the banners bearing
the Roman gods brandished by the Roman legions?
