There's a more subtle alternative. Firefox has a nice extension called Flashblock which'll replace all SWF content with a small button which you can click to have the SWF appear should you wish (or be forced) to see it.

That being said, on one of my boxes I still haven't upgraded from Flash 4, and that does tend to work quite well as a "wheat-from-chaff separator" :)
