My understanding is that it does not. Otherwise why would not the
concept of 'return' include reincarnation?

But might not that connection be explained better by reference to
something similiar to Carl Jung's notion of a collective unconcious

Possibly, but I wouldn't call that a form of reincarnation because
reincarnation involves the *soul* transmigrating (except in Buddhism
where there is no soul.)
