Hum, I think I didn't explain this part well enough; the idea is clearly
not to create a long term plan - you know what I think of long-term
plans. ;p

It's simply the continuation of the discussion with Josselin - to start
from the audience and the type of game, even if it means we change in
two weeks, to try to make it easier to sort out which features are worth
implementing, and what we should focus on first.

It's not about describing what we want the game to be in six months or
one year - it's about trying to get more consistency in our definition
of the game. If we start writing gameplay mechanisms without having in
mind the relationships between the demography/audience, the genre, the
message/pitch and the gameplay mecanisms, we'll just get an inconsistent
experience.

For example, in what you describe, what's the goal of the player? Is it
a strategy game or is it more casual? Is the player experience
story-driven or not? What are the references for the feeling the player
has while he is playing? What's his motivation? What's the context of
the story, the message?

I tried to start answering the detail of the gameplay mecanisms you
describe, but I realized that it was difficult to do it without
constantly having to come back to the positioning of the game. I really
agree with Josselin's point there - we need to focus on this first.

Don't misunderstand me though - I'm not saying we should start having a
"grand vision" for the game and start discarding everything that doesn't
fit. I just think that it's more than time to really face the choices
that Josselin has highlighted, and I hope you'll want to join the
discussion.

It's probably my fault though - I should have started the third
document, about the gameplay, only once we had agreed on the two first
ones. The objective would have been clearer I think...

So, how would you position the game? What would you keep/change on those
two documents?
