Hi,

Following the discussion with Josselin about the audience, I realized
that there is a recurring theme that we find in a lot of highly popular
techno/sf movies - Artificial Intelligence. Matrix, A.I., Ghost in the
Shell... And they could very well help to provide what's missing from
the game - a compelling story and a base gameplay. AIs are very useful
to personify technology, to humanize it, and to reach a less hardcore
audience than a full-fledged strategy game.

>From a gameplay perspective, we could:
- Meet AIs in the game, capture/befriend them when we hack websites ;
- Once captured, AIs would work/fight for the player, they would
personify his progression and progress themselves ;
- We would establish a relationship with them, take care of them, or
even breed them! (to allow to attract a significant female segment) ;
- There could be different sorts of AIs (to trigger the collection
habits): different abilities (intellectuals on university websites,
music-lover on music band websites...) and different types (more
powerful/intelligent on high PR websites - and maybe also a bit less
likely to listen to the player...)

This would of course only be a base, on top of which we would be able to
build more innovative stuff afterwards. But I think we're at a stage
where we should restrain ourselves from innovating - we have already a
very innovative concept (hacking around the Web), now we need a standard
and well-tested gameplay that will allow us to build the audience we are
targeting without having to reinvent the wheel. Aurelien, what do you
think? How would it work, if we were to chose this path?

A possible story, to allow to extend the concept afterwards, could then
be something like this: one day, while you were browsing the web, you
discover that humanity is not alone. Conscious AIs are awakening within
the Internet itself, and they ask your help to try to find out what is
happening. But you quickly realize you are not alone to know, and not
everyone seems to have the same agenda...

Do you like it? Or should I stop smoking crack?

Xavier.
