Uhhh, it's called being part of society. I'm a better driver than
most, and in my Porsche I can go a LOT faster than the posted speed
limit in many areas. Why do they limit ME to the posted speed
limit? I'm politically more knowledgeable than just about everyone
else I know, and yet I get only one vote. My next-door neighbor
knows I'm not a thief, yet she locks her home when she's away,
keeping me from inviting myself over whenever I feel like it, just
because someone else might then be able to enter her house and
steal her possessions. Why are they picking on me?
There are trade-offs such as this in virtually every area of life.
If you don't like the trade-offs, you can move somewhere where
there are no other persons living. If you live around others, you
need rules and rights and all the other stuff.
Fine. But those rules should be specified in advance. Show me where
it says that if you run BBEdit on three machines, every running
instance will be rendered unusable by a nag box that pops up whenever
you do anything and refuses to be dismissed for 5 or more seconds.
I'm not asking for total anarchy, as you imply. All I'm asking for is:
1. BBEdit to be slightly less restrictive with their rules to
accommodate users that may have more than 2 machines, or if they
choose not to be less restrictive,
2. At least be up front about the nag box so that potential customers
can make an informed purchase decision. Don't let customers discover
the nag box until AFTER they've paid for the product; that is a
recipe for pissed-off customers, as I can attest.
