I don't have any specific knowledge, but it seems likely that the law for
backup tapes would be the same as for laundry, automobiles, or household
goods, in which case they would be within their rights. Of course, you
might want to find a more understanding vendor for the future.

In our office, we take some off-site backup tapes home with us. The PTB
were uneasy with this untill Sept 11th, when we learned that offsite
storage firms were so "backed up" that tapes were taking weeks to be
retrieved.
