i've used a lot of baytech terminal servers: http://www.baytechdcd.com namely the M series chassis with v74 (4 port) serial cards and v72tp ethernet cards. they've been fine, support up to 60 devices/chassis. i've also had success with cisco 2516 routers and livingston pm2e as terminal servers. you should consider where you'll be locating the terminal servers in your network for security purposes (is telnet okay or do you need to ssh to the terminal server?) also, consider whether you'll need access directly to the terminal server via modem (dialback?) etc... for cables, i've always just converted whatever i had into a 'standard' (of mine) pinout on cat5/rj45... then used adapters to connect the rj45 to my gear. i leave a box of pre-made adapters for sun, pc, etc... laying in the data center. /chris --- Send mail for the `bblisa' mailing list to `[EMAIL PROTECTED]'.
