Has anyone here gone with any vendor other than Veritas for Veritas support? I'm getting what I think is a really outrageous quote from them. Our previous admin let the maintenance lapse for a couple years, and Veritas wants to charge BOTH retroactive maintenance back to day one AND a reinstatement fee of 25% of the cost. I don't see why we should pay for a time when we were not actually covered and weren't supposed to be covered. And I really don't see why we should pay *twice* for that past period.

Plus, we have one system for which we bought File System and Volume Manager separately, so they insist that we have to pay separate maintenance forever, instead of a less expensive "Foundation Suite" support contract. Not a big price difference, but annoying. (reminds me of the one and only time I took a Toyota into the dealer for maintenance.)

But what other good options are there?

I am not an experienced Veritas admin so I do want some backup - and access to updates and patches.

thanks Betsy
