I can speak about this, as I'm management and have been through it recently; in excrutiating detail.
There are other vendors that offer phone/software support for Veritas. However, they are bound by Veritas policies only; not pricing. In order for them to support you, you have to be in "good graces" with Veritas. Which means, back support all paid up, and everything current. These are Veritas contractual requirements for 3rd party support. In many cases, this support is sold from Veritas to the 3rd party with a wide margin. If the 3rd party wishes to win you as a customer, they will frequently offer deep discounts for the first year. This may result in far smaller discounts in the subsequent years. In many cases, it's cheaper to buy new, current Veritas products and get support with them. As wrong as this is, in the grand scheme of things, you get what you want for a cheaper price. I really, really wish there were viable alternatives to Veritas out there in the Sun world. And I mean, full feature for feature matching. -Andrew On Tue, Oct 21, 2003 at 02:11:03PM -0400, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote 1.4K bytes in 33 lines about: : Has anyone here gone with any vendor other than Veritas for Veritas : support?
