OK, thanks.

So it seems that your jqt installer is "what it says on the tin", as we say here when we ignore the obvious! Whereas (I think!) we have previously done "install 'qtide' " to _update_ our qt binary stuff, the new exe file attempts to do a complete installation.

So we should do a clean install - but that's a tedious business unless we really need to do it!? I didn't want to do that, which is presumably why I've had one or two problems. It seems unreasonable to require users to have to download all their required addons.

You earlier said that "install 'qtide' " would still work. However, is that the preferred way of staying up to date in future, or are we expected to effectively uninstall and then reinstall for each update?

Thanks again,

Mike

Not sure what's wrong with your computer. I just test install
both win32 and win64 and looks OK to me. Did you try a clean
install?

On a fresh install both jhs and jqt addons are actually there, but you
need to run from pacman menu > tools > rebuild all repository catalog.
This is the same as j801a install where the jhs addons is bundled
but not displayed inside pacman.

"c:\windows\system32\bin\j.dll was not found".
it tried to register the JDLL automation server, but it should be
$INSTDIR\bin\j.dll thank you for pointing it out, it will be fixed in
the next release. Anyways it won't affect J's normal working as
what you had tested.

No idea why avast dislike installer, all binaries are copied
from the jsoftware download folder and built on a debian server
using nsis, no windows VM or wine is involved in the building of the
installer files.

OK - I managed to override Avast!'s caution by disabling its file and
web checking for 10 minutes!

My first attempt at installation failed, I think because it
couldn't write to the old j801 bin folder. Might be wrong...

So I renamed j801\bin as j801\binold and the installation proceeded
ok, but I noticed that the installer's log showed that
"c:\windows\system32\bin\j.dll was not found".

So I created this system32 folder (...\bin was absent) and copied
j.dll to it from j801\binold and installed once more.
There was no log-message about j.dll not being found, but it doesn't
seem to have affected the installation.

First fire-up had a different appearance from how I'd previously
configured JQT and previously used scripts weren't available; so I
then copied profilex.ijs to the new j801\bin folder.

It now fires up as I expect to see it, and my recent ijs scripts are
available.

My Package Manager reports that no items need upgrade or
installation. Is that what Mr Boss meant?

Avast! doesn't object to jqt.exe, thank goodness!

So far so good,

Thanks,

Mike

- Is my JVERSION (history below) up to date?
I think so.

- If users HAVE run the jqt installer (not my case), do they still
need to run install 'qtide' in jconsole ?
No. the installer is All-in-one.

- If users have NOT run the jqt installer (my case), will running
install 'qtide' in jconsole continue to work?
Certainly

- Are there other differences we need to be aware of?
Installer is intended as alternative for those who have difficulty
to read and follow instructions (fool-proof) so that it contains all
necessary lfiles for running a qt ide by download and install using
mouse click.

The plugins folder is moved to become a sibling folder of bin.
This is the same as that in windows version of qtcreator.

Jqt.cmd also sets qt_plugin_path. I thought plugins were required for some

Also, the OSX version still requires a script (though the Linux version does
not).

Update either with the previous method or installing the updated installer
again.

The avast may issue false alarm because the installer was built on a
debian, but you should double check with other anti-virus programs.

So does this supersede the previous methods for downloading J701 with qt?

Here's my current JQT version:
    JVERSION

Engine: j701/2011-01-10/11:25

Library: 8.01.016

Qt IDE: 1.0.22/4.8.5

Platform: Win 64

Installer: j801 beta install

InstallPath: c:/d/j801

Does this need updating?
Anyway, I did try to download the file jqt_1.0.22_w64.exe but my trusty
AVAST virus checker thinks it's a virus .
Will
   install'qtide'
still do the necessary updates if and when I need them?

Thanks,

Mike

There are now 2 installer for windows for 1.0.22 at webpage,

http://www.jsoftware.com/download/jqt/

jqt_1.0.22_w32.exe
jqt_1.0.22_w64.exe

It include j801, jqt addon and qt runtime in one installer.

There are also some older version for linux without qt runtime.

Please test and comment. Thanks.
