Thanks Mike!  I received other report that shader did not work
for win8.  For the time being, you may use the ANGLE version of
Qt libraries if you want opengl.

I have no idea why your win8 is so slow other than some
background scan or disk read/write activity. FWIW the total size
of windows 64-bit Qt 5.3 library is about 100MB. There will be a 
slim version.
