OK, my take:

1. Regarding library size, Michael, I have always found it simple to
blow up my test library size using a few hard links. If that doesn't
help, just copy the library a few times to a subfolder structure.

2. Browsing speed is certainly one important factor but I have also made
the experience that users with extremely large libraries find the whole
system hard to use due to the excessive scanning times. The problem here
is that this type of user adds a lot of tracks every day, that's why the
library is so large.
And if, at the same time, the scan takes several hours or even up to a
full day (I'm talking about libraries well in excess of half a million
tracks here) it means this type of user pretty much exclusively uses
BMF. Which brings us to the next two points:

3. It looks like performance with the current SQLite degrades in a
non-linear fashion with large libraries. This sees to have been better
with MySQL.

4. BMF, at least with the 7.7.x versions wasn't up to the task either.
Often, a not-up-to-date library means that browsing to a folder with new
tracks will show these tracks but they will not play then. This
currently makes a considerable part of my customer service requests from
users with issues with iPeng and their SBs. I'm not sure whether 7.8.x
does already fix this (I know there has been work on it), currently I
recommend to try it out,
