seemed to be Pippins point, but I should add they are on a USB2 ext
mirror drive.  before you say A HA!  ...let me point out other apps use
them there as well and have no problems, or similar performance issues.

I'll say... Oh! And where's your cache folder? This one you should put on the fastest disk you have available.

Even if other applications are faster using the same disk, using USB2 certainly doesn't help. USB2 _is_ limiting performance. I only do use USB2 when testing performance in a low I/O performance situation... But the disk where music is stored is only relevant during scan operations. Search etc. you mentioned most likely don't touch it (except for BMF).
