Just played settlers last night. Wife had 8pts and we knew she was
holding a point in hand had two soldiers up, and we figured one of the
3 development cards she had was a soldier. On her turn she made a big
deal about another couple we know that from the start of this game
make lucrative trades throughout game so his wife can win. She figured
if i made a lucrative trade with her son so he could make two roads
and take her longest road away that would be cheating, i was throwing
the game. NOT, she was at 8pts i was at 6pts her daughter was at 5pts
and her son was at 4pts. As it turned out i got a lot of resources
during the next few turns after hers and this big deal she was making.
Her son played before her, he drew his only resource on his turn a
rock. I traded her son 2 brick and 2 wood for the rock. CHEATER
CHEATERS was the response and lots of negativity was the result. We
lasted one more round before she won any way, but the result was her
daughter ended up cheating, some how acquiring a road of her mothers
and laying it down on her road so that she could regain longest road.
Her son was willing to trade anything she wanted, as i was, just to
end the game. Settlers is on game dropped from my top ten, if BGG ever
fires up again, and i will not recommend this game ever.
Recommended from your list is Hunters and Gatherers (cause wife likes
it) and Ticket to ride, yet to have a problem in that game, people
seem to accept being cut off from their destination as there is
usually another rout to complete ticket.
