I'll throw in another vote for Race for the Galaxy. I won't deny that it does have a fairly steep learning curve, but that won't be a problem at all if you're going to be regularly playing with the same people over lunch break. However, I will say this: people get intimidated by the "extensive" iconography used in the game, but there's really only a few different icons that are combined in different ways and used in different phases. When you understand what the basic icons mean and how the phases work, it's fairly simple to reason out what any given card will do.
That being said, in my experience most people will be playing their second or third game and have a kind of "Eureka!" moment when everything just kind of clicks together. Once that happens the game flows very quickly, with a two player game taking 30 minutes or less. For 3-5 players it takes about 45 minutes or so, depending on the slowest person. (The two player games tend to be much quicker due to both players selecting two phases per round.) I do recommend the Gathering Storm expansion as well, if you've decided you like the game. It doesn't add a ton of cards, but it does a good job of filling out a couple of the strategies that were weaker in the base set. i.e., it gives the game more polish without adding complexity. It also adds a solitaire mode that's a lot of fun, but brings it's own learning curve. Anyhow, this is probably more info than you wanted, but I do love this game. I'll have to try a couple of the others listed here, as I'm always in the market for good 2p games. Have fun! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "BGG Down" group.
