Thanks for posting this Steve, I was just about to do the same. There is a story on this at the bottom of the front page of the Cap times today (which is not online yet).
The bicyclist saw the situation coming, and slammed on his brakes - then it seems his front wheel locked and he flipped over his handlebars and his head ended up under one of the truck's wheels. It sounds to me like his weight was too far forward on the bike during the stop. As I learned last year in Effective Cycling, emergency stops work better when you shift your weight toward the rear wheel, and back off on the front brake a little (especially if your rear wheel starts skidding). Alternatively, you can avoid getting "right-turned" in situations like this by making an emergency right turn in parallel with the truck. You do this by first flicking your wheel to the left (which shifts your center of mass to the right of the bike), then make a hard right turn (which you can now make more sharply due to your center of mass being shifted to the right of the bike). Helmets are good too! -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Meiers, Steve Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2007 8:43 AM To: bikies Subject: [Bikies] cyclist hit This is a media release from the MPD RELEASE DETAILS FOR CASE# 2007-51178: Accident - Hit & Run Case Date:05/11/07 Case Time: 2:30 PM Release Date:05/11/07 Release Time:10:13 PM Released By: Sgt.
