This kind of crash is completely common when we build "sidepaths". It is one of the downsides to this type of path. There may be ways to improve this particular intersection but it is best of we bikers educate other bikers of the danger. Every time a side path crosses and intersection or driveway, the danger of cars turning exists. Lesson learned, expect the worse from drivers.

Nothing excuses the truck-driver's actions, of course, but I have to ask if the design of the path -- and the intersection in particular -- is part of the problem. I really like that path, but I know there's a traffic engineering principle that it's not a good idea to put a two-way separated bike path next to a busy street. This path is a fait accompli, and a nice one at that; but is there a way to modify the Division Street intersection to make this sort of incident less likely?
