I don't like this intersection, either. A few years ago, I got hit by a
car turning right on red from Division to Eastwood/Atwood. The driver
apparently looked only to her left to determine if the way was clear,
forgetting that there is a two-way bike path that she would also be
cutting across to make her turn. My case was much less dramatic,
however -- she had come to a complete stop before starting up again, so
all I got was a twisted wheel and a bruised leg. And no hit and run.
She admitted her culpability and paid for what needed paying for.
Nonetheless, I strongly dislike the intersection -- almost as much as
the Regent/Monroe/Crazy Legs Accident-Waiting-to-Happen.

This intersection always makes me nervous; whenever I go that way, I

Nothing excuses the truck-driver's actions, of course, but I have to ask
if the design of the path -- and the intersection in particular -- is
part
of the problem. I really like that path, but I know there's a traffic
engineering principle that it's not a good idea to put a two-way
separated
bike path next to a busy street.
This path is a fait accompli, and a nice one at that; but is there a way
to modify the Division Street intersection to make this sort of incident
less likely?
