Is it worth mentioning that the way the law is written it is the equal responsibility of cyclists to keep three feet away from a motor vehicle? I grasp the distinction between the risks of a high-speed pickup truck cruising past me with inches to spare and me slipping up on the right and a little inside the three-foot envelope of one sitting at a stoplight, but in fact both are equal infractions in the eyes of The Law. More to the point, perhaps, I wonder if it doesn't send a message to motorists that it's okay to cozy right up when it's expedient.
