On the bright side, on most days since December 1, our icy streets and
bike paths have also been accompanied by the most splendid snow
conditions on our parks' ski trails. So, while there is certainly a lot
of added risk to winter cycling to lament, there is also the best skiing
in living memory to rejoice in!

Since I don't have studded tires (yet - all these glowing reports make
me ready to give them a try soon) and have not ridden much this winter,
the less-foul-weather bikers among us should also be thankful for a
fairly reliable bus system (even though on some days the creep of
traffic on Campus Drive makes it faster to WALK from Randall Ave. to
UBay Drive!).

I have a different approach. I just go into a bike store (usually YJ)
and buy a studded tire. I don't remember what brand. I just ride on it
and it works for a long time. I make a modest investment and then
forget about it and just ride my bike.
