Where I shop by bike: Hilldale, north side of University Ave (Shorewood Hills), Monroe St, Regent St, downtown/capital area Sometimes farther out on the west side, depending on what I need to buy
Why I shop there: Decent bike parking Fairly easy to get to by bike Relatively close by from my house and work How I carry things: Usually panniers I need to get a trailer for larger things and more major shopping trips Once in awhile I'll use a backpack or messenger bag, if I'm only buying small/few things I have a variety of panniers, but usually use Trek "shopping bag" panniers for most things. These are open on the top and exactly the size of a standard paper grocery bag. These allow me to easily slip things into the panniers as I buy stuff. I can carry a canvas bag for shopping, and then just toss it in the panniers. I also have a Arkel mountain bike pannier that I use every day for going to work/meetings. I carry my laptop and files in this, so if I'm shopping, I need to either buy small things (like 1 lb of coffee) or use a second pannier. I have been known to bungee larger items onto my rack, but that always seems a bit insecure. -- Robbie Webber Bike Walk Madison Steering Committee www.bikewalkmadison.org Join our group on Facebook!
