Haywood has always been a popular connection between the Arboretum and west Shore Dr/Monona Bay, but it is not now, nor to my knowledge has it ever been, a signed bicycle route. The only signed bicycle routes that cross Park Street in this area cross Park at Drake Street, running past Vilas Zoo and then via Grant St to Monroe St; and crossing Park Street at Parr to connect to Fish Hatchery Rd and points south from there. As the bike map key indicates, bicycle "routes are intended to indicate major routes through the city (mobility) that most bicyclists will feel comfortable using. They are not intended to link all possible locations (access). Bicyclists are not required to use these routes. New bicyclists, and bicyclists new to Madison, will find these routes useful for getting to know Madison by bicycle." So continue creating your own preferred routes, and hopefully the relatively new signal at Erin helps people crossing Park Street.
