While we're on the subject of bike crossings on S. Park, we should definitely think about Drake St. When Park Street is busy, it's almost impossible to cross Park at Drake. The signal at Erin St. has improved things somewhat, since it creates gaps when it turns red (which is not all that often), but it's still pretty frustrating.
I generally avoid the problem by crossing at Vilas Ave./W. New bicyclists, and bicyclists new to Madison, will find these routes useful for getting to know Madison by bicycle." So continue creating your own preferred routes, and hopefully the relatively new signal at Erin helps people crossing Park Street.
