The graphic from Miami LOOKS like a traffic sign, but it's really an
advertisement on a bus shelter, so it's out of Traffic Engineering's
jurisdiction, and it's not covered by the MUTCD. (It might not be a bad idea to
have a sign like that in the MUTCD, but I'm not holding my breath).

Madison doesn't have ads on its bus shelters, but there are other places to put
a sign like this, including buses, billboards, or posters in store windows. It
might might miniaturize nicely into a bumper sticker, and it might make a nice
T-shirt.

There are other organizations inside and outside government that are more
motivated and less rule-bound than T.E., so I think we could spread this
graphic around Madison, if we wanted to.

this was Stoughton, but I'm sure there are Madison cops who are just as
ignorant and arrogant. I'd suggest that we bring this sign to the attention of
Traffic Engineering as well, as I believe they are responsible for putting up
signs (and refusing to put them up if not approved by AASHTO (acronym??). I
know we've had trouble trying to get the city to put up signs at Russell and
Division saying "two way bike path crosses here."

I recommend that you bring this to the attention of the Mayor and the Police
Chief. Based on your description, some training is required. Hopefully,
the Officer will consider this a learning experience but if, unhappily, he
does not, your email will constitute a public record and notification to the
City that there is a personnel issue that they are responsible for.

I thought this was the truth but I got pulled over in the city of Stoughton,

last week, because and a cop passed me with less than 2 ft. of clearance. I
expressed my disapproval with a hand gesture (not the finger)- he stopped
and asked what the problem was- I responded by saying I would like more room

when he passes me - He went nuts-Tried to find a law that I broke- He
couldn't and had to let me go after a lecture on how I could not be in the
traffic lane unless I was going the speed limit... The bottom line is they
(cops) have all the power- they can make up the rules and if we disagree it
will cost a lot of money to hire a lawyer to fight the charge- they drop the

charges and we are still stuck with the bill.
